Farm Storytime and the Why Behind It

There’s something quite magical about gathering together to listen to a story.

When we first started hosting weekly storytime back in February, it came from a desire to slow down, to connect, and create another space where families could relax.

Farm life is rooted in rhythms. The seasons change, crops grow, animals follow their routines, and the days unfold with a steady purpose. But in the middle of all that work, we realized there was an opportunity to invite others into that rhythm in a more intentional way. Storytime became that invitation.

We wanted to create a space where children could sit on a bale of hay, listen to a story, and feel connected—not just to the words being read, but to the world around them. There’s something different about hearing a story next to a farm full of animals!

For families, it’s a chance to pause. Life gets busy, especially for parents. Between school schedules, activities, and daily responsibilities, it can be hard to find moments to simply be together. Storytime offers a built-in moment of sweetness— a time to listen, giggle, and dance.

Stories teach, inspire, and spark imagination. They help children make sense of the world and see it through new perspectives. Spending time afterwards doing a group activity and then heading out to the farm to feed the goats is unbeatable.

Starting weekly storytime has reminded us that the farm isn’t just a place for growing food—it’s a place for growing experiences, relationships, and memories.

In the end, that’s really why we do it.

Not because it’s big or elaborate, but because it’s small and meaningful. Because it brings people together. Because in a world that moves quickly, it gives us all a reason to slow down, even if just for a little while, and share a story.
